The HBC helps investigators in organizing either individual or multiple investigator research projects and in preparing the materials for application for funding. Upon successful funding of research projects, the O'LEARY Shared Service Center » will assist investigators by organizing the research budgets, conducting searches for research personnel, ordering supplies and equipment, monitoring budget expenditures, and informing investigators about the status of their grant-related budgets. The staff has expertise in administering funds from a variety of sources, including the NIH, NSF, DOD, industrial partners, and private foundations.
The overall success rate of HBC Investigators in obtaining external funds is very good and stands above that of the average success rate of researchers across the nation. Included among the successes in funding are several large, multi-investigator, collaborative, multidisciplinary research grants, such as NIH-sponsored Center and Program Project grants. Examples of those are the NIH-funded COBRE centers in Cancer Therapeutics, in Protein Structure and Function, in Molecular Analysis of Disease Pathways, and in Chemical Biology of Infectious Disease, the Center for Chemical Methodologies and Library Development, the Center for Specialized Chemistry, and the Program Project on Aging and Oxidative Stress.
