"Hot" Research Tools Take Center Stage

 

The Higuchi Biosciences Center, in a joint effort with COBRE I and II grant recipients and the Ex­perimental Therapeutics Program, presented a semi­nar called "What's Hot: New Research Tools at KU." The event took place at the Adams Alumni Center on the KU campus, December 12.  Among the presenters was Gunda Georg, the Prin­cipal Investigator of the COBRE I. Distinguished Pro­fessor of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry George Wilson discussed the University's new Ana­lytical Proteomics Laboratory (APL). Also, co-directors of the APL, Todd Wil­liams and Michail Alterman, made a presentation about advancements in mass spectrometry. David Vander Velde, director of KU's NMR lab and Qizhuang Ye, director of KU's new High- throughput Screening lab also made presentations. COBRE II PI Robert Hanzlik and Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry Ernst Schoenbrunn discussed the University's capabilities in X- ray crystallography. Director of the Molecular Graphics Lab Gerald Lushington and Jianwen Fang discussed the latest KU research efforts in bio­informatics. Director of the HBC Elias Michaelis wrapped up the event with a discussion of gene microarray technology.
