NMR Spectrometer Brings Technology to KU's West Campus
A 400-megahertz nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer has been installed in Takeru Higuchi Hall - the original home of Interx and recently acquired by KUCR - on KU's West campus as an extension of KU's NMR laboratory facilities. The equipment will allow researchers to perform routine chemical analysis of samples they have synthesized or isolated. Though pharmaceutical chemists with the Higuchi Biosciences Center will be its primary users, the equipment is open to others on West campus on a self-serve basis.
"Before we installed this spectrometer, people
had to take samples to Malott Hall on the main campus, which was a logistical
nightmare," said David Vander Velde, NMR lab director. "Not only was
parking a problem, there was also a continuing bottleneck at the spectrometer
because everyone on campus had to use it. Now people on West campus can
schedule a time slot online, put themselves on the machine and go."
