The Lawrence Regional Technology
Center (LRTC) is the new name for the Kansas Innovation Corporation (KIC).
LRTC appointed area businessman Matthew McClorey as its new president and CEO.
LRTC is a non-profit organization whose mission is to stimulate the creation
and growth of technology-based, high-impact businesses in northeast Kansas,
and to facilitate technology transfer from the region's academic and entrepreneurial
communities. Don Johnston, chairman of the LRTC board, said board members are
excited that McClorey will be leading the organization.
"Matthew's education and
experience will bring a great dimension to LRTC and will renew efforts to create
technology transfer opportunities for the University of Kansas and Lawrence,"
Johnston said.
McClorey will employ his background
in business and technology at the helm of the organization. McClorey comes to
LRTC from the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation (KTEC) in Topeka, where
he served as vice president of business development and portfolio management.
His experience also includes time as investment and business development
manager for KTEC and as a senior consultant for Deloitte Consulting, where he
advised companies such as Nextel, Sprint PCS and Lucent.
McClorey said there is untapped
potential for commercializing the research at the University of Kansas and the
technologies being developed by local entrepreneurs. "By creating a
strong partnership with KTEC, the city of Lawrence, Douglas County and the
University of Kansas, LRTC can play a crucial role in developing a base
of successful high-technology companies in Lawrence," McClorey said.
"We look forward to serving the community and producing results that will
further the growth of our local economy." •
