Siahaan Wins Self Scholarship
Teruna J. Siahaan, associate professor of pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Kansas was one of two professors named Self Faculty Scholars for 2001-04. He will receive $50,000 annually for three years to finance his research. Siahaan's research interests are in the area of modulation of proteins that are involved in cell-matrix and cell-cell adhesion. He has a bachelor's degree in chemistry and a master's degree in organic chemistry from the University of Indonesia in Jakarta, and he has a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Arizona.
This is only the second year the scholarships, created by Madison and Lila Self of Hinsdale, Ill., have been awarded. The Self Faculty Scholar Award recognizes KU faculty members early in their careers in the fields of science, engineering and business who have established a reputation for superior scholarship in their disciplines.
