University of Kansas and Stowers Institute
Collaboration Formalized
Early this year, the Stowers Institute for Medical Research in Kansas City, Missouri, the University of Kansas and the KU Medical Center reached an agreement to promote collaborations in medical research. The three will exchange information on their current research programs to target potential areas for collaboration. This will allow the group to apply jointly for contracts, federal grants and awards for medical research.
"Stowers and KU have already been exploring the possibilities of joint faculty appointments and joint use of scientific equipment," said Robert Hemenway, chancellor of the University of Kansas. "We see nothing but growing cooperation between the two institutions as the relationship grows."
William Neaves, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Stower’s Institute, said the agreement "exemplifies the spirit of cooperation that permeates the Kansas City area’s life sciences community. Drawing on each other’s strengths and resources allows each institution to avoid duplication of effort and spending, and enables each organization to focus on what it does best."
